Quote from F. B. Meyer

I believe that if there is one thing
which pierces the Master's heart
with unutterable grief,

it is not the world's iniquity,

but the Church's indifferences.

Think about this quote....let it sink down deep...

I read an interesting devotional thought by this man,
F.B. Meyer, today in my Bible entitled "Willing to be Led"
based on Psalm 23:2. After I got done my devotions, I
looked him up online. He was born Frederick Brotherton
Meyer in London in the year 1847. He was a Baptist pastor
and  evangelist who came to know D.L. Moody. He
traveled to America many times and died in 1929 at
the age of 82.
I left up the page so I could read some of his quotes.
There are so many good ones, but that one at the top
of this page! That one got me!

Imagine this, he is speaking of the church back in HIS
day! How much more indifferent are we today....how
sobering! How convicting!

*I also went on Thriftbooks and ordered 3 of his books!
His biography, a devotional & a study of the book of Romans!
I am REALLY looking forward to that last one!!!

God's Incredible Love

" What is love? Love is the consuming, absorbing desire for and delight in
another's highest good. Real love is entirely unselfish. It loses sight utterly
of self-interest and sets itself to seeking the interest of the person loved. This
was God's attitude toward the world. He LOVED the world, really loved it.

He looked down upon this world, the whole mass of men living at any time
upon it and that should live upon it in all times to come, and He loved them
ALL. His whole Being went out in infinite yearning to benefit and bless the
world. Any cost to himself would be disregarded, if it would bless the world
to pay the cost. 'God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son.'
Oh, men and women, stand and wonder!"
                                                                 - R.A. Torrey

I read this in my devotional Bible this morning, not once but twice. I wanted
to get the full meaning. And WOW! Think about the awesome love our God
has for us! He had a plan from the beginning of time, to save our souls by the
death, burial & resurrection of His Son because He LOVED us SO much!
Take time to think about this! How can we not love Him and want to serve
Him!

More Quotes From A Heart For The Home

Here are some more good quotes from the Jim Townsley book
A Heart For the Home that I found interesting....

"I imagine every person would change some things if they could"
(speaking about the past), "but it is important to realize our past is an
accumulation of good and bad, and we may learn from both. Learning
to accept who we are and recognize that we are sinners helps us form
a proper perspective for the future. The things I cannot change I must
accept, and the things I can change, by God's grace, I will."

Under the heading "Practical Ways to Admonish Your Children"....

"Read to your children." (So thankful that both my daughters & their
husbands read to my grandchildren!) "Children enjoy stories and learn
basic lessons from them. Reading Bible stories is a very important
habit for young minds, and early on daily Bible reading must become a
staple in the home. We will be the same tomorrow as we are today, except
for the books we read and the people we meet."

"Hugs and kisses provide a sense of safety and security and are good
reasons to hold and touch your children. Man is made in such a way
that caresses are needful. Abundant love and affection should be displayed,
particularly while children are young. Well-adjusted children have been
given much love and affection."

"Aim at nothing and we are bound to hit it. Rearing children is not like
spinning the wheel of fortune.Training children to live for God is more
choice than chance. From an early age, begin with the end in mind. What
do you want them to be?"  (Or what does God want them to be....) "Once
you envision your child as an adult, consider the necessary steps to help
them realize their highest potential."

"One day your children will look back on their childhood either with
remorse or thankfulness."

So much of this I wish I had read and instituted when all my children
were little. Homeschooling was a great way to have Bible time with them,
yet I wish now I had started earlier.....though I am very proud of all our
children and how they have all chosen to have a close walk with the Lord!

That last quote...."one day your children..."......WHEW! It really caught my
attention! I know our home life was not perfect, but I think the Lord really
intervened and helped us produce some fine adults! Sinful man can only
produce sinful men were it not for the grace of GOD! Thank you Lord!

I'm Back....

Well, it has been a long time! And even though we have had internet at home
now for about a month, I am just not that interested in technology anymore...
to a certain point! 😊

As I think how much I want to post on here more frequently now, I am also
hesitant because I want there to be purpose to what I am doing. At the same
time, I do not want to act like I have all the answers for the world....because
even if I did have them, not many people even read this anymore!! Anyway...

There is a certain part of me that really likes the simpler times, days when
people would actually sit on their front porch and talk or spend good quality
time together.....leaving technology put away. I know this is mostly wishful
thinking and I really didn't grow up in that time, but I do wish sometimes
that things were simpler....less technology, though I know some things are
nice....Facetime for one. I guess I am just noticing that people are BUSY!!
This technology that was supposed to make things easier for everyone has only
given us a reason to pile more on our plates!

With all that said, I'll get on with the real reason I wanted to post!🤣

I am reading a book by Pastor Jim Townsley titled "A Heart For The Home".
He does a lot of reminiscing in the book and I think this sparked all that at the
beginning of this post!....Here is something I found interesting....

"Marriage principles that worked in the past still work today. Though the Bible
truths concerning marriage were written hundreds of years ago human nature
has remained unchanged. Old does not necessarily mean bad. Simple common
sense principles are illustrated by the following comments:

                                            Country Sense

- The biggest troublemaker you'll probably ever have to deal with watches you
shave your face in the mirror every morning.
- Your fences need to be horse-high, pig-tight, and bull-strong.
- Life is simpler if you plow around the stump.
- When you wallow with pigs, expect to get dirty.
- Bumblebees are considerably faster than a John Deere tractor.
- The best sermons are lived, not preached.
- Live a good honorable life. Then when you get older and think back, you'll
  enjoy it a second time.
- Live simply. Love generously. Care deeply. Speak kindly. Leave the rest to God."

I thought those were good. And some are funny too! I'll probably put other things
from the book on here as I find them.
